Is it the same 4.3 v6 that was available in the truck?

The 4.3 and the 350 are the same engine design, with the obvious exception of the two fewer cylinders of the 4.3. Many of the parts are interchangeable, from water pumps to distributors to pistons, etc. The important part to your query is that, yes, the bellhousings and the transmissions are also the same. I'm assuming the Safari has a 700R4. The only thing I could see being different is the tailshafts, and if they are different, you could take the one from the Silverado off and put it on the Safari transmission. You'll also have to make sure the exhaust manifolds will fit, but I'm sure they will because the van has a tighter engine bay.

Curious: is the 350 blown? If you're just doing this for fuel mileage, you won't notice a whole lot of difference. The 4.3 is decent on fuel, but not outstanding.

I got the engine and tranny pulled from the Safari! man what a job. I got to get some muffler work done i know. No Jason the truck was given to me and the guy kept the motor because the silverado was wrecked. I'm fixin that as i go. The 4.3 has a huge tranny hooked to it! it is a 4.3 v6 with the big transmission. The on ly thing now i'm REALLY scare of is the WIRING!?!?!?!?!?!?! Help guys reply lol think it'll work, it's goin in on Monday. Today is church day.

Just keep the wiring harness from both vehicles (if available). It should plug right in where it needs to go. The engine harness from the Safari should all be stand-alone, with only the fuel tank sender and gauges and stuff to plug in. It may plug right in, since the years are similar (I actually didn't know they made a Safari in '84, so I learned something new). Just get it all in there, and deal with one thing at a time.

yeah the wiring is all that worries me, it was hit hard at the right rear of the cab, the door wouldn't even close. The bed got tore up bad too. i'm gonna put my bed off my 91 sierra (almost 300,000 miles!) on it and i took a angle grinder and cut out the section of the cab that was damaged and salvaged the inside part where the lockin pin is. i got the door straightened almost out and got the jam pulled back out with the four wheeler and beat and banged and got the door realigned now and it closes like a new door, i guess i'm gonna CUT out the same part from my sierra cab and weld it into place there. I hope, ha. I'll keep yall posted on my progress and maybe put up some pics.
It's def . a project! hard to do all this when ur out in tha yard.

I hear you about the yard thing. I've done many a project in my parent's backyard, losing screws and tools in the grass. Good times.
