If your nomadic lifestyle preference is somewhere between a tent and a camping trailer like mine, this might appeal to you.
The designer, Jay Baldwin, a respected industrial designer, (read more about Jay Baldwin) has been searching for a manufacturer to take on his patented project and get it to market. (By the way, Jay designed the very first Econoline camper for FORD back in the 60's.)
I have offered to conduct a coordinated and standardized market survey on his behalf as a freebie to determine public interest.
When the electric motor powers open the clam shell design, it provides 6'4" of headroom and an 8x8 living space, complete with kitchen, table and a bed. The prototype runs off of solar power, has internet connectivity, propane stove and other amenities. He has logged over 14,000 miles in his prototype unit. Weighing in at 800 lbs, it's would be one of the lightest practical campers on the market. Its aerodynamic design lowers the center of gravity and provides good gas mileage while on the road.

| when I was looking for a cap for my pic up we almost bought one. but the price was three times the price of a normal cap.
but now when I look back i should have bought it. I think then I really could have got my wife into the outdoors. | |

I've been thinking about getting a truck, but they're either too expensive or the gas mileage is crap. This product on their website promises 20+ miles per gallon, so I think I can actually get an F-350 Super Duty Crew Cab with a V10 now!
All kidding aside, it is a really neat deal. If it is around in a few years when I'm ready to purchase such a thing, I hope I remember it's out there.
A question, though. Is it easily removable? That's one cool thing about slide-ins, you can just jack them up and drive the truck out from underneath them, no problem. This one looks harder. | |

| the one that I was looking at the dealer said it was no harder than taking off the fiberglass cap. and the cap that I had took two people to get it off and on the truck.
it would be interesting to see how they do this cap. | |
