| DrSpeed, That is the article I am referring to. Although a very well written article and good pics, step 7 of the second part states to turn the vehicle on to pump out the tranny fluid that is left inside. The problem is that you keep adding 8 more quarts. In essence from my simple knowledge of trannies you will pump out the original 8 quarts plus the 8qts you added for a total of 16 quarts. At some point you will run they tranny pump dry. Here is step 7 with my question "7: Start the truck to start pumping out the old transmission fluid. Remember to simultaneously add new fluid as the old fluid is coming out, the fluid will come out quickly ""This is the part I don't understand. If you add fluid you will pump it out. When do you stop adding fluid or when do you know you have all the old fluid out?"". For us, pumping out 8.75 quarts took less than a minute. Remember to drain all the fluid from the clear tubes to ensure you have accurate measurement | |

| It sounds to me like you're supposed to plug the drain when the 8.75 quarts of new stuff is all in the tranny. That would assume the flow rate is the same, but assuming similar viscosity and a gravitational force of 9.8 m/s2, it should be the same amount.

| Hey sorry it has taken so long to reply. I've been busy unpacking...just moved to Virginia from Kansas.
Anyway...the flow rate is really going to depend on the temperature of the fluid due to the internal thermostat. When you start the vehicle, you will see an initial "sputter" then the fluid will start to flow out steadily (how much again will depend on the temp). Keep adding new fluid while keeping an eye on the old stuff coming out. Once you see it start to sputter again or you see air bubbles, have your partner shut the vehicle off.
Hope this helps | |
