I am starting to do some "off roading" many of you would probably laugh at my off roading but, you know. I would like to start getting more daring and much more MUDDY. I would like to get a self recovery winch. My question is do I need a brush guard to mount it to?? Can I mount it straight to the frame?? Also what brand do you recommend? I dont know much about this topic so any help would be appreciated.

No, but you will either need a bumper that allows a winch to be mounted to it or there is a "hidden" type winch mount set-up that sits underneath the bumper. www.gowarn.com

Some winches also mount to a front (or rear) trailer hitch receiver. This may work well, especially if the way you are trying to go is backward, just mount it to the rear and there you go. Or the front, as the case may be.
