I finally broke down and picked up a new pistol. I have always loved the look and feel of Kimbers, and they have a very good reputation so I didn’t have a very hard choice on what to go with. This will be my carry gun as soon as I get my permit. I wanted something that was fairly small, packed plenty of power, and something I could rely on, and this one fit the bill perfect.

Here it is, Kimber Custom Carry .45 with a 4" barrel:

Just thought I would share,

Kyle

Damn, that's the exact gun I've been wanting. How much did it set you back?

Sawblade,

Cabelas had it in their after Christmas sale this week, I picked it up for a little under $800.

Thats a beautiful peice, I have always loved the 1911 style. I carry a fullsize SpringField 1911 loaded or SpringField EMP 9mm 1911 depending on weather.

Also check out http://forums.1911forum.com/index.php It is one of the biggest 1911 site on the net. Everything you could ever want is here.

Thats not a bad price either, Usually Cabella's sales prices are high. I know that my local gun shop sells them aroud the $850 mark. Sale I have seen them as low as $795.
SpringField Loaded.

I've had my eye on this one for a while. I've pumped a couple of hundred rounds through a rental at the local gun range and I'm throughly impressed.

water spider,
I couldn’t pass it up due to the price. Normal price @ cabelas for this one is $829, they had it on sale for $789, so I had to buy it. I went to a local gun shop to get another price on it, and they had no idea what I was talking about. I guess the custom carry II is something that Kimber only licensed to Cabelas, and they aren’t available anywhere else. The sales guy at the other shop pretty much told me Im full of it, and kimber makes no such gun until another customer told him that he saw the exact gun I was describing in the Cabelas sales flyer. So he had to call Kimber directly to find out what was really going on, and they told him about it being only available at cabelas.

I looked around, and I guess it is the same gun as the Pro Carry II, just with the black top and wood grip, instead of being all stainless with the black grip. But hell, the MSRP on the pro carry II is $950, so $789 is a steal for pretty much the same gun. I just went and picked up 150 rounds for it, so I will get to really test it out on Sunday. I can already tell I will have to upgrade the sites, the current ones suck. The gun came with a case that had a Meprolight sales magazine in it, which are really nice night sites imported by kimber, so I may have to do some price checking on these.

Sawblade, that’s a damn nice looking gun too. Taurus makes some nice pistols. My next gun will either be a Taurus .40 or a Springfield XD40.

I put 100 rounds through it yesterday, and it shot flawlessly. We were shooting at about 25 yards and I was hitting pretty damn good, I'm really happy with this gun. The only thing I'm not too fond of is the sights, and the 7 round magazine. I plan on upgrading the sights to a set of Tritium Meprolights later this week, so that will help out a lot…and I guess I'm kinda stuck with the 7 rounds, that’s the price you have to pay to carry a compact .45.
