| How often do you plan on using the winch? More of an aesthetic mod or a functional one? Do you have a roller fair-lead on it or just a solid piece with the hole cut in it?
*edit*
I just looked at your pics and saw the roller fair-lead....I don't know if I would use the synthetic rope with the roller fair-lead. It seems like it would be better for the rope, but you run the risk of snagging it where the roller meets up with the bracket...if you are pulling on any kind of an angle, you can pinch the rope on the edge of the roller and it will fail. Most of the synthetic rope manufacturers recommend using a solid fair-lead without the rollers to stop this from happening.
The synthetic definitely has its advantages though, no risk of snap back if you break it, don't have to worry about wearing gloves because it wont cut you like a cable will, and it is stronger. But you have to be really careful with rocks (because of the possibility of cutting it), and if you use it a whole lot, it will wear down much faster than a cable will.

| Brian knows how to read me like a dirty book.
I don't know if I plan on using it too much. I hope I NEVER have to use it. It's more for looks, but I like knowing that it'd be ready to use if need be. I can tell you that I won't be doing any crawling. Logging roads and mud are probably the extent of it. But if I could use it to pull someone from a ditch or something, I'd like it to be ready.

| Yep spool it out and then winch it in. What I did for mine was went to a vacant parking lot on a weekend and attached the cable to a cement anchored light post. Slightly applied the parking brake and then winched it in slowly while under load of the truck.

| If you want to replace the cable with the pretty blue rope, it's easy.
Find a big parking lot, or the side of the street, and get the Sheep and the box it came in (aka the Commander), and park it end to end, about 100' apart.
Pull the cable off the drum, and undo the nut holding the cable, not the one driving the Sheep.
take the pretty blue rope, and hook the clevis to the box the Sheep came in.
the other end goes back onto the drum, and get 5 wraps on it. Get into the Sheep, back up until the rope is taught.
Keep the Sheep in reverse, with Mrs. GE2 behind the wheel. Make sure to have the remote for the wench, and start realing in the Sheep towards it's box with you in front of the wench, and guide the rope in to make sure it's neatly wound on the drum. you want to make sure the rope is taught the entire time.
There. any Q's, call me.

| No big deal really. It's just a time for more diesel nuts to shoot the shit, talk shop and what not. But if you want to cruise up Friday night, we can knock it out quick, you're more than welcome to crash here at check out the Dyno day.
Shoot me your number, and we'll make this happen.
I have a flight to catch on Sunday at SeaTac, so I'll be driving through your 'hood Saturday evening, if you want to do it then. I'm easy going...=)
