I have checked into this myself. The OEM DVD player needs to go through the factory in-dash unit. There is no adapter currently available that will allow the factory DVD to run through an aftermarket in-dash unit.

There is a guy on F-150online that moves the factory radio behind the dash and leaves it hooked up to the rear seat entertainment unit. You can then install an aftermarket head unit and still use the rear seat entertainment. I think in some cases he can remove just the control circuit board from the OEM unit and leave that hidden behind the dash instead of the entire OEM 6 disk player.
