me and my buddies just bought a house 2 weeks ago, and have been busy remodeling entire house, we are wanting to remove the sensors for the garage door, because all they do is annoy us. there is no small kids or pets to worry about crushing so we just want to take them out. i know i could duct tape the 2 sensors together and then throw them in attic, but is there a better way that just involves a little wire or something right on the garage door opener itself?

After finding my garage door opened a few times, due to a nail hitting a wire. I quit using the Door opener and open and close it by hand. I removed the arm from the door

Got one of the old time slide locks to secure it. Unless a little old lady is parking in the Garage everyday, remote openers are more of a pain then they are worth and not very secure. IMHO

As far as bypassing the sensors, search on line, or ask a Garage door installer

In the few garage door openers that I have install, the sensors are just using light beam to complete a circuit. If that's what yours is using, just use a piece of wire between terminals for the circuit and you will complete it also. But, I would definately look online with manufacturer to make sure you don't burn up the motor or such if you do bypass the safety beam.

Budman,

Yeah, you can take most garage door opener's sending units, and drive thru a neighborhood, pressing the button, and get at least 1 or 2 doors to respond. It's always a good idea to change the codes on the base and remotes to something other than default from factory.

Install them to the ceiling above the door. If it is ever an inspection issue you can place in the proper location.

line the 2 sensors together (face to face) and tape them with black electic tape, no way the beam can be broken now

My Buddy just placed his at 3' solves the animal problem

Diffenitly change the codes

TIP: Take the Remote & drive around your area & see if anyone is on that code, when you find one that isn't used then set that for yours.

We don't have 1 here yet, I've always find more pressing issues to spend the $$$ on
