well heres the deal. i have an old desktop lying around. i want to install it into my truck. i have it all figured out except for a few things. will i need to get a new hard drive? i no that desktop hard drives arent built to take that much bouncing around. if you dont believe me, kick your computer and see what happens. lol. would it be possible to put a laptop hard drive into a pc? i no that laptop drives dont have cables and usually just slide into the comp. is there an adapter or somthing? or is there an affordable hardrive out there with a high G-force rating?

also i want to get a touch screen. do most come with a vga input or do i have to get a new graphics card with the regular AV plugs. But the big issue is how would i get the comp hooked up to my car stereo? i was thinking with an auxilery cable. but wonder if that might diminish sound quality. any advice is much appreciated. iv been looking all over the net and havent come up with much on this topic. i usually find people who have done it with a pc made to be put into cars.

I'm not a computer wiz... but reading your post, it doesn't sound like you would be using any part of that old desktop at all.

Google around, there are entire websites devoted just to this topic along.

It sound like you can probably use about 0% of your desktop PC for a carputer.

no i can use the whole comp. its just the hard drive im worried about. the mother board, graphics card and so one shouldnt be a problem. im pretty sure i can just hook up the sound system using and aux cable, im just worried about sound. but i dont think that should be a problem really. i have my comp hooked up to my home stereo using an aux cable and sounds pretty good. i plan on upgrading the sound card on the comp but no hurries on that for now. and that shouldnt run me too much money.

i just signed up for this forum and so far am loving it! i dont think iv ever gotten responses on a forum this fast ever.

I kinda think we have enough distractions in the car now.
What with DVD, Video Games, Ipod, music. cell phones, food, drink, portable shavers and even eye make up for the ladies.
Im sure everyone has seen a woman doing her eyes while driving on the fwy going to work.

Believe me driving in Los Angeles you don't need any distractions. People racing through the flow of traffic cutting in and out of lanes to get to where they are going 4 minutes faster. What ever happened to just driving safe?

Bear, They had no idea I had a show truck. They were sort of slack jawed. That picture is 2 years old so I have a lot more its just too much work to drag them all out again. Its all a bit much anyway.
