When you find out let me know...My wife's IPOD has been in her van forever and would be willing to bet it is in the same condition

If your battery is beyond dead the USB cable will not have enough current to charge it. I found that out. Mine died, so I plugged it into my computer and nothing. But.....if you put it on a docking station, or a speaker system with the dock connector, that also plugs into the wall that should work. Or just to power adapter. But as far as I have experienced, the computer will not charge it if the battery is very dead.

Yeah the IPOD was just SOOO DEAD nothing would charge it, but as soon as i got the wall charger boom it lit up and as couple hours later i was up and going again. Well worth the 10$ for the wall charger.
