Doors shut at Hooters across state

NASHUA – It must have been a shock to the Hooters Girls who showed up for work.
On Monday, a paper sign taped to the door said “CLOSED,” directing employees or vendors with questions to call a Boston attorney.
As it turns out, the Nashua eatery was one of eight Hooters locations forced to close after a Boston judge forced the Massachusetts-based R.J. Fritz L.P. franchise into Chapter 7 bankruptcy last week, according to court records.
The company ran all three Hooters in New Hampshire – Nashua, Manchester and Salem – under a franchise agreement with Hooters of America Inc.
It also operated restaurants in New York, Massachusetts and Rhode Island, all of which were shut down.
In October, R.J. Fritz voluntarily filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, which allows a company to reorganize itself and continue operating.
Chapter 7 forces a company to sell its assets.
On June 19, U.S. Trustee Assistant John Fitzgerald filed a motion to convert the case to Chapter 7, arguing R.J. Fritz was not likely to rehabilitate and pay hundreds of thousands of dollars in outstanding debt.
A judge approved the motion one day later.
The company owed more than $100,000 to food vendor Agar Supply Co. and nearly $200,000 to Hooters of America, among other debts.
It also owned lease payments, attorney fees and energy bills.
It’s unclear what led to the franchise’s demise or whether employees were notified of the closing in advance.
A call to the attorney named on the door, John Aquino of Boston, was not returned. Neither was a call to the attorney that represented R.J. Fritz in the initial bankruptcy filing, Melvin S. Hoffman of Boston.
A press contract for Hooters of America did not respond to an e-mail message. There is no phone number listed on the Web site.
The nationally known rib, wing and burger restaurant, where waitresses dress in short shorts and tight-fitting tops, opened in Nashua since 2002.
The Manchester location opened in 2001.
According to Hooters’ Web site, its closest locations now are in South Burlington, Vt., and Manchester, Conn.

| Its a sad day when a Hooters closes down. Our local branch closed last year or so. Of course, I haven't been there in years, so I didn't even notice.
The food is mediocre (hot wings, though), the service is a'ight, but its as close as you can come to drinking in a strip club in Washington state. | |

2. But more important the food isnt that great. I got sick on their chicken wings twice. That was about the only good thing on the menu.
3. And if Tits were brains you would have gotten a lot better service. Alas but the service is poor. | |

| | Hooters? Its about time. i don't know why they even called themselves that. Girls were flatchested, Assless bimbos, and the food was gutwrenching at best, uneatable at worst. But the orange shorts were nice. The best thing about the one in NH was that it gave me a reason to go to Best Buy while my sex crazed ex visit the gals and blow half his check tipping them for serving him a meal that would make the health Inspector cringe. After all that they weren't even paying their food bill. Maybe they should change their names to losers. They closed the one in Syracuse NY (Caroseul Mall, On a food court no less). It was actually next to a Caroseul Pony Ride for the Kids and a game room | |
