Have Pickup. Will Help Move.

Apparently that sign is stuck on the back of all my shirts, and I can't seem to remove it. Why is that...the minute you own a pickup, you're the designated moving guy for all your buddies? Well, this weekend was just that. Margie scored an internship in China and Taiwan, and is heading out of Seattle for the summer. I don't understand why, as summer is THE time to be in Seattle. Why put up with the clouds and drab days to leave the 18 hours of daylight we get in the summer? That's right...18 hours. It's crazy.

Like two weeks ago, when I was mowing my lawn, and it started getting just a bit dark. "Boy, getting a little hungry. I should hurry up and finish so I can eat dinner." I get washed up, and raid the fridge. Look up at the clock. "Sonuvabich." It's 9:15. So much for dinner...we're nearing late night!

I digress. Back to Rockstar Moving Services. Okay, the truck's a shade taller than most other pickups on the street, which doesn't lend itself conducive to moving large/heavy/bulky/awkward boxes into the pickup bed. But, nonetheless, we still do...but this time, I sprung for the highest quality "3-step" step-ladder from Lowes. And that takes you right into the bed of the truck.

So, a little bit of project management on packing, and by 1:00pm Sunday, after three trips to the Public Storage, we were done with 95% of the moving.

Good thing I can clear the 12 foot door!

Then, there was the matter of storing her Maxima. I have some room in my driveway, and her car is in DIRE need of some TLC, so I took said let me have it for the summer, and I'll take good care of it. Some interior detailing, new powersteering pump, minor tune up, and away we go! But, to get it from Seattle to Bellingham with one person is requires and trailer, and that's when Rockstar Towing Services stepped up to bat. Who said a truck with 12" of lift, 40" tires is completely useless?

With a GCVW of 15,800 lbs (8,800 truck + 3,000 trailer + 4,000 car), which is just a hair under 8 tons, the drive way pretty uneventful. Made it up in no time, and managed to keep about 10.8 mpg towing at 80 mph! The hardest part was not being able to see the trailer behind me.

Oh, and I just about a mile from home, I see the dumbest shit on the road. This:

Got Mexican Rice?

I thought it was was a Civic SI. NOPE. Was a Ford Focus....not it's just a crappy pink car with a piss poor body kit that doesn't line up to any body lines, gay projector lights, and a crooked plate held on with a zip tie. That cop should impound the car for being an eyesore. Ugh...just hideous.

Denny I feel your pain. I must have that sign on my truck because its always being used for that purpose. And half the time the wife has it because I'm at work.

Only my good friends get my help in moving. Anyone else and it won't fit because of my cover.

I've done some moving or furniture transport for people......always just take one of the dump trucks though, until recently when I use the 07 if the shit fits.

Luckily, when working 75-90hr weeks I seem to cut-off all communication with the people who need stuff from me I don't have to do shit for awhile

Damn, how did I forget the weekend mooving blitz!!? Down to Florida and back to NY moving the Girlfriends Mom and little sister back to NY. Did it on a long weekend, including spending a day in GA visiting friends on the way down.

Rented this

Filled it and the truck

Damn I really need that bumper sticker.

Denny, if I had known you were in the moving business, I would have hired you!

I was just thinking the other day how I really need another truck, that the SUV is nice but it just isn't cutting it.

I think I'll stop thinking that now.

I didn't even use my truck when I moved. I rented something bigger so I could make fewer trips.

You think you have it bad I have two pick ups. you'd think I was Allied van lines or something.

My older one they want to take themselves. Twice Ive loaned it out and twice its come back with something wrong that "I" had to fix.

So no more loaning of my pick up.

I get stuck sometimes, but I have a few good excuses. The tonneau cover on my f-150 kinda limits its moving capabilities and its wayyyyy too hard to remove (4 bolts , but it looks like it would be hard). And the F-250 sits too high for most people to want to mess with. I tell them I will help, but they have to get everything from the ground to the truck and back to the ground...most people would rather just call somebody else.

I just got roped into moving a bunch of appliances this weekend.

My Brother-in-law is selling his house and decided that he didn't want to leave the stainless steel refrigerator, dishwasher and double oven range behind. So he decided to GIVE THEM TO US!

I can't believe he is making me drive all the way up there to pick them up. He better have some beer. It's gonna be a long drive just to get $5,000 worth of free appliances.

Oh well, my bad luck. (snicker, snicker)
