I'm going to be stationed at Andrews for a while and I don't plan on driving my truck at all in the winter because of the salted roads. What's a good cover that can be left on outdoors for long periods of time and can handle a lot of snow piled on it?

Covercraft has a weathershield cover that might work. A company called Wolf sells them with his logo for the best price I could find. Mine's covercraft's noah and does a good job for me, but I don't have snow and I'm in a carport.

I have one thing to say about car covers.....they are the worst thing in the world to put on your rig for an extended time.Ask any of the guys and gals that know who I am on here and they can tell you I know what I'm talking about.I've been in the custom paint biz all my life and I can tell you this....A cover left on your rig will destroy the body and paint you are trying to protect. The reason is this, yes the cover will keep the car dry...for a few days....but....our little friend called condensation will show his evil ways. The cover will trap moist air and if left long enough it will seep into the paint and destroy the metal from under the paint out.I know this wierd but you have to think of your truck body like a cold glass of water, when you fill the glass with chilled water and let it sit for a bit you will see water droplets on the outside of the glass....right? The water does not go through the glass does it?This is condensation....the same thing will happen to your truck body if it can't dry of after it's stuck under the cover after it gets cold and wet....and it will....no one makes a cover thats condensation proof!
You better off finding a freinds garage or just leaving outside...the snow is not going to hurt your rig....and when it gets wet it will be able to dry off.Car covers work great when they used for very short term outside covering or keeping the dust off in the garage.....provided the car or truck is totally dry before it's covered....remember condensation....A wet or damp car that is covered to soon will trap the moisture and create a green house affect and then your back to the wet paint again?Trust me I've seen way to many cars and trucks that where covered for protection end up in the shop getting completes because of trapped moisture.
Just my two cents,
Rick

I agree....my cali car cover ruined the paint on my tonneau cover. I left my truck covered outside for most of the winter. Come spring time, I pulled it off and it looked like water beads all over the tonneau...that was until I wiped my hand across it and realized it was water under the paint. Now Im stuck with $1200 tonneau cover with paint that looks like there is water on it all of the time.

Take the money you'd spend on a cover and go rent a storage unit and put your truck in it.

There ya go - that's settled!

Thanks for the input. I'll check on the price of storage rooms around here to see if that's feasible.

I grew up in Silver Spring MD, not to far from Andrews.

The Winters are not that bad up there. It's not like Wisconsin

The Winters are the last thing to worry about....it's all the
dumb ass drivers in the D.C. area!!!!
