Again on my new Mercury Mariner.

It has a 6-disc CD changer installed under the front seat. I've had changers for probably 20 years and have never had these problems:

Prob 1: Many of my CDs, which I have had been playing for a long time in other vehicles, are now skipping. Not on a bumpy road, but sometimes while parked at a light! I'm going to try washing them, but seems funny the trouble should start now, and start with a lot of my CDs,

Prob 2: With a full cartridge, all 6 CDs, when I select a CD the system will say "No disc in #2", then after a couple of minutes #2 will start playing. Seems like slot #1 and #6 are the only slots which react immediately to pushing the selection button.

I'm thinking the dealer should replace the whole unit. What do you think?

I think you're right. Weird that its under the seat, I thought they were all in-dash units now.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I would have thought "dealer add-on" except it is described in the owners manual as being "under the front seat".

Oh, you know what? I see you have a Hybrid. I'm guessing you also have the navigation unit?

That would explain why its under the seat. That's how all of Ford's nav units have their changers, remotely mounted.

That makes sense now.
