| Next step, IMO...pull the superchip and get a 6 position chip from TS Performance.
www.tsperformance.com
If you have an auto trans....put a BTS valve body in it if it's stock (be sure to tell TS you are installing the valve body so they program the chip accordingly). Or just a full on built trans. (I love my BTS transmission)
Then the Turbo
Stay away from propane, if you value your motor.

| I'd agree with DC...
Start shopping for a chip...TS is great, DP Tuner has their new chip out as well. A valve body mod will help your tranny live longer too.
And depending on where you want to go, horsepower wise, we'll be able to better direct you.

| IMO?
will i see a big difference switching from superchip to the ts (the mp-8?). can this programmer be changed on the fly?
i thought propane was a good thing? thought it made the fuel burn cleaner and get better MPG's?
i don't know too much about trannys (i do have an auto trans)...what will a valve body do? will i feel the diffence or is something that strengthens. is the valve body a difficult install? thanks, brian

| Brian,
No tuner is adjustable on the fly. It takes anywhere from 5-10 minutes to reprogram the PCM with the udpated go-fast software.
With the chip, it's adjustable on the fly. Just let off the go pedal, click the position, and away you go!
As for the valve body, the purpose of that is to increase the line pressure inside your tranny, to get quicker shifts. If the torque converter lags in getting from gear to gear, especially during WOT, it creates a lot of heat when the TC slips. And heat is the number 1 killer of transmissions.

| IMO= In My Opinion
As for the TS...no, not the MP-8
You want the 6 Position Chip for the 7.3L PSD
Propane can be used for mpg if you use a small amount of it. But, if you use it for additional power, it can be very dangerous on your motor (run the risk of breaking a connecting rod). I wouldn't touch the stuff myself.

| | After you do all that, I'd give some serious thought to upgrading your brakes. When you add all that go-fast stuff, big tires, lift, towing, etc., a lot of dudes forget to upgrade the brakes. Plus, if you have bigger wheels, you look like a dork with stock brakes. | |

| i talk to the guys at TS, the unit sounds good. i like that you can switch the settings on the fly. and 140+hp, that's huge.
i'm looking into the tranny upgrade.
DC, you said you installed a new trans, does you new one have more gears then the stock? i have 4:11's (noticed you have 4:56)and on the highway i'm at 2300 rpm's at 70 mph. i was thinking of getting a gear vender this summer, i'd like to drop those rpm's on long trips.
i have thought about the breakes too. would swapping the rotors make a nice difference or gotta do calipers too?
my truck prefomence goals...i just want to have fun with it. my truck is a daily driver, i use it for work and fun. i don't want to squeeze it for everything its got but i'd like to make it a little more fun to drive.

| Brian,
Give Jody a call at 828-221-0076.
http://www.dp-tuner.com/73tuning.htm
I think they've got the best tuning...and that F5 chip has a digital read out so you know what program your running. It also has the ability to run 16 files if you so chose to.
As for buying parts to support your mods, you can get package deals at:
http://www.itpdiesel.com/ - Dennis is the go to guy there for gauges and fuel system upgrades. He and Jody work together.
Brakes - DC's got a great article on Powerslot Rotors with Hawk pads. I went with Powerslots as well, but chose to go the route of upgrade calipers as well:
http://www.truckblog.com/story-913-how_to_install_ssbcs_8_piston_brake_calipers
And for tranny upgrades...you're stuck with the 4 forward gears in the 4R100. DC upgraded his tranny to a BTS unit:
http://www.brianstruckshop.com/
Those things are supposedly bullet proof, and shift a ton better (never had an auto, but have heard RAVE reviews. Ask DC). However, you have to tell your chip tuner to dial back the line pressure with the upgraded tranny, or they'll shift REALLY harsh. And they're pretty pricy too...but the quality is up there.
But if you run the chip in 75-80 HP mode, with a valve body upgrade or a shift kit from Transgo:
http://www.transgoperformance.com/forde4od.htm
That should keep you rocking and rolling. Couple that with a TC from TCI:
http://www.tciauto.com/Products/Ford/ford_e4od-4r100.asp
You should be good to go!

| Not to argue with Denny....BUT...I've ran both TS and DP tuner.
As for Jody and DP having the best tuning.....I don't agree with that at all. After all, if that were true...I never would have contacted Dennis and Sheila Perry at TS Performance.
http://www.competitiondiesel.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3009
My BTS trans is the same as stock...just waaaaaayyy better built with a much better torque convertor. Night and Day better over the stock transmission. BTS sells just the valve body as well.
I run 4.56 gears since I have 38" tires (Soon to be 40s)
As Denny mentioned, I have the Power Slot Cryo Rotors and Hawk LTS pads.

| Dude, have you read all the issues that occured when DP switched to Moates.net to make their chips? I *think* they may have corrected most of the issues with their new upgraded cable...but I'm not 100% sure.
I like TS's chip since it's ISO certified and x-ray'd.
They haven't had any issues with their chip.
And...they did just come out with a new chip that has a faster processor that with the same programs has trucks running smoother than ever (mine shipped out yesterday...I should have it tomorrow I think..or Thursday).

| Homeboy....did you run TS tunes ever? or just that DP Tuner chip (that they used to buy from TS)
I thought you had Steve Cole's TTS chip and then went straight to the DP?
Funny thing is.....I think just about everyone who had those issues with it defaulting to programs...ran DP-Tuner programs..
Dude, Jody isn't the only one who does cylinder pressure testing.
In what world is your truck more badass????
You made print yet??

| i'm confused about something....about the tuners, the crashing thing. DR, were you running the TS chip with the DP tuner? does the TS chip come with a seperate tuner and the chip is installed in the truck to control the settings or is all the tuning in the TS chip and plug it in and play?
