I just bought a Mercury Mariner with the factory CD-based Nav system. Is it just me or are these a piece of junk? I've had a TomTom GPS in my truck for a few years and it is centuries ahead of this factory unit.

I had plans to eBay my TomTom (good old 'Lola') but no way now. Unfortunately, in order to get leather interior, I had to buy the Nav package. I got screwed. Paul

I am sure if you found a way to remove the system and upgrade to an aftermarket setup I am sure some shmuck will buy it on ebay. You can sell anything on ebay.

That is good to know. I was considering upgrading to a Ford Navigation system to replace my in-dash 6cd player. I need a Ford radio of some kind if I want to keep the overhead rail DVD system. I have been told that the DVD will not work with the aftermarket systems.
This thing has all kinds of good features already built in. It has the Ipod interface, Bluetooth interface, SD card reader, Satellite radio ready. It even has a TV tuner built in and a 5x50 watt amp for surround sound.

Mark, Wow! What a unit! It really has everything and sounds like something I would want. One thing that scares me is when it says the maps are DVD-based. My TomTom keeps them all in RAM, the Ford unit uses CDs. So everytime it needs data you can hear the CD spin up and read data for about 5 secs. TomTom-Lola is instantaneous.
The Ford unit does not really seem to be GPS-aware. I set the "Home" location while in my driveway. Then I set a "Destination" in the address book using my daughters house 20 miles away. I told it to plan a route and the damn thing said I was at my dughters house (can you spell 'GPS'?) and drew me a route from her house to my own driveway! And when I drove out of my driveway, it showed me driving on HER street!
Maybe it's Operator error and I don't know what I'm doing yet. But Lola is staying on my dash!.
