I've noticed that there's no Jeep section, so I'll post it here:

Denny vs. Rental
So far, I've had a wicked history with rental cars. They all seem to have one thing in common - they get their balls kicked in with such force that they go from being a "he" car to a "she" car.. For the most part, I've managed to get nearly all of them back to the rental yard on their own power, except one. And that one wasn't my fault.

This time around in San Antonio, there was an '05 Jeep Wrangler in the Emerald Aisle. So, being that it's 70 degrees F outside, I said what the hell, dropped the top, and away I went to my meeting.

After spending some time in a compact, I reminisce the days of trail riding in my Pathfinder. So, with just minutes to spare prior to my flight, I jumped off I410 a few exits before the rental car yard, and found me some good 'ole fashioned urban wheeling in the wash.

Found said "Off Road Park" near freeway.

Tested out the four wheel drive, making sure that it engages. (Should have done that earlier.)

Okay, this has NO articulation.

Hmm...I wonder how soft the dirt is with all that water. Not too steep of a drop.

Hmm...not much tread left on the tires.

No wait, it's pretty steep.

These tires sure have a bit of grip.

But then again, is is concrete.

Back at the rental yard.

The damage?

Well, let's see:

1. Torn sidewall on the tire.

2. Broken front left sway bar end link.

3. Dented transferase skid plate.

(3.5. May have cracked the transfer case.)

4. Dented gas tank skid plate.

5. Alignment is not so straight anymore.

6. Custom pinstripes courtesy of bushes near the trail.

7. Mud up EVERYWHERE.

So, what's better than going off road and reminscing about the good 'ole times? Off roading in someone elses car!

The final count: Denny-33, Rental Cars-1.

Two years ago in Vegas we rented a Mitsubishi Montero. We took it into Arizona toward the Grand Canyon. We drove down to the Colorado through an Indian Reservation. Got stopped by the Tribal Police to make sure I had a permit.

My folks were with us, they laughed all the way down the trail to the river. Didn't damage it too badly. After I got back I realized the contract said no 4 wheeling, oops!

I usually do okay with the rental cars, but I've had a few mishaps:

Got rear-ended in a rental (I don't have any recollection what kind of vehicle I was in at the time). Damage wasn't visible from the exterior, so I turned it in with a bit of a kink in the unibody.

Had Sebring a few years ago that by the time I turned it in you could from Park all the way and down to "1" at any time, without ever having to press the little button on the console shifter.

Has a Taurus that was fine when I got it, but went back with a dead head unit and burned out taillight bulb. Oddly enough my own personal Taurus suddenly had it's head unit start working again, and the burned out bulb in the left rear tail was lit up again...

Hummer H3 that did some parking lot off-roading and ended up with some dings in the rocker panels,

Good Story. Too bad you didn't have a photographer along to help catch the action shots.
