| Another club member bought a bunch of the replacement parts and we all did the recall work ourselves months ago. Might have even been last year.
All you had to do was report the VIN number to the dealer and get a refund on the part. It really wasn't that big a deal, and I think it took a grand total of 2 minutes to replace the part.
I am glad yours got taken care of, but shocked that it took so long.

| | Took me months of arguing with the dealership. That's one of the reasons I don't drive a Ford anymore. | |

| Mine had already been done on my old F-150, but on my 96, I just bought the $11 part, spent about three minutes and put it in. Not worth the hassle, in my opinion.
Its one of those jobs where it takes longer to locate the tool to do it then it does to actually put it in. |

| My truck was in the first recall. I got a new switch and a harness adapter. The later recall only gets a harness with a fuse. If the switch shorts out the fuse pops before the fire can start and the cruise stops working. To get it to work you need to purchase a new switch because the warranty has run out. The switch is part of a redundant circuit. In the event that the cruise will not disengage the natural tendency is to press harder on the brakes to slow down. This switch senses this increased pressure in the master cylinder and opens the circuit and that turns off the cruise control. If you want to still use cruise control while waiting for the recall unplug the switch and shove a 5 amp mini fuse into the connector on the harness. You will need to bend the fuse a little to get it to fit but it is possible to make it fit. Just remember, if ever the cruise fails to disengage, shift into neutral and pullover and pull the fuse. ;)
