What is the freakin deal.....have any of you had this problem?

The 'ole "water in fuel" light comes on.....ya drain drain drain drain and there ain't no stinkin water....and the light just stays on on the time. Last time they had to replace the whole HFCM module and now it is doing it again.

I am sick of it. Why doesn't this part last?

TB,

I don't know...wasn't it the sensor that went out last time?

Maybe it's just the same ol' Ford customer service at work: ignore the problem and maybe it'll go away?

It's no different than the door cracks on the F-150's, cruise control switchs that were denied for a few years while trucks torched, denying that there was anything wrong while Explorers flipped on a regular basis and the problems reported everywhere with the 6.0PSD's (Ford's solution? Here ya go - have a $2500 discount on your next truck...)

I feel your pain...

yeah...it was the sensor last time too Bear.....

it is really weird....we change the fuel filters on schedule and everything....it seems when this sensor goes out there are like gunky chunks that drain out from the HFCM plug (like when you are draining water from fuel). Kinda dark colored chunks. I am suspicious that Ford didn't design this module with the correct materials. I am wondering if that isn't a weird type of corrosion that is forming in there due to a reaction with the fuel and metals/materials they used and that is what is making these weird gunk chunks which maybe in turn ruin the sensor. Heck if I know....

frustrated!

Marilyn,

A couple things I would do.

1. Get the sensor replaced again
2. Try fueling at truck stops or stations that have high diesel turnover.
3. Run a fuel additive like powerservice and see if it makes a difference.

Any truck stop...I think even Walmart carries it. Grey bottle is for summertime, and white bottle is for winter.

I wouldn't go too crazy with the additives. Stanadyne is what most big rig drivers use.

The winter stuff is just like adding kerosine to the fuel. It reduces the cloud temp, or gelling of diesel when temps drop below freezing. And based on how I experienced Houston....that NEVER happens...

I'd replace the sensor yourself, as it's not worth paying the $100 deductable.

Before that, I would (in this order)

1. Add DIESEL fuel injector cleaner in your tank
2. Run tank to near empty
3. Top off tank with fresh batch of fuel
4. Replace fuel filter AND HFCM sensor
5. Drive normally.

The injetor cleaner will clean out all the wax in the fuel lines, and sent them to the filter. When the that tank of injector cleaner is run out, then you swap filters, getting rid of that clogged one.

And are you draining the filter bowl via the yellow lever?
4.

Thats a 7.3 thing... the 6.0's have a hex head bolt in the HFCM. Or in Marilyn's case a "knob" since she did the IH mod.

Marilyn,

Sorry, I don't know too much about the six point oh no's...but without seeing what that stuff is, i couldn't tell ya.

cause? perhaps too much cleaning agents or additives in the fuel..or just bad fuel. try fueling up at truck stops, where there's a higher fuel turnover rate..so you always get fresh fuel.

common? dunno...I drive the OLD 7.3...=)

They just dont build them like they used to. Nothing but problems and recalls.

Got a recall on my L for those dumb cruise control switches that were burning up trucks.
