Im changing my interior a little. Im taking all the black out. Such as the seat inserts and black areas of the door panels and replacing them with either Alligator or Ostrich.

Does anyone know of a leather supplier wholesale or retail that sells exotic hides of this nature?

Have you contacted the people at Katzkin? They have hooked up several people with sponsorships, so they might be able to refer you some where, or maybe even give you a full/parital sponsorship?

Problem is I have a custom 13,000 dollar interior already in it and they would want their name on the seat. I already have SVT embroidered in the seat.

I need them to sell me material alone with one of the exotic hides I need. All I want to do is improve upon what I already have.

My aunt and uncle used to raise Ostriches and have a bunch of hides left over, how many do you need and what color? I can check with them.

I need the center area of two seats and the area around the door handles. Everything you see in black now will become Ostrich.

I need a darker tan color that will contrast nicely to the tan you see here.

But not brown, that would be to dark.

I just emailed my aunt and I will let you know what she says. I am sure they are pretty cheap since it is coming straight from the Ostrich farm and not paying a bunch of middle men in between.

OK I found it. First I found fake Ostrige. It looked great and only cost 155 dollars for 6 hides. I took it to the Upholsterer and after stetching it out a little to make it fit the parts we found the quill marks flattened out. Also the color rubbed off. So I took it back.

I then went back on the internet and found an awesome company that has the real stuff. Its grade number 1 Ostrige skin but its so expensive it made me light headed when I heard the price. They are also the only people who sell real alligator in the USA.

You wouldnt think the black areas amount to much but after making padderns of the areas I need to cover I came out with 44 Square Feet. Now the problem is the Ostrige hides are only sold by the hide and only half of the hide has the nice quill marks. So you have to buy twice the square footage to get the nice quill area on everything.

I bit the bullet and got the hides. We have the seat and door panels out and were about to cut material. Just to fill the black sections is going to cost more than the entire inital interior job and thats the bed included. Im not sure of the wisdom of this move but Im commited now. Or mabe I should just be commited. Here are the skins.

As you can see the quill area is only half the skin.

I don't know if these guys work with exotic leathers, but here's the guy that does all of Coddingtons interiors, might be a start for you. http://www.gabescustom.com/

This may be a busy time for quality custom shops, I'm finding that many of them here are scrambling getting projects done for SEMA. I'm trying to get some work done on the GTO and most of all the good shops are telling me that they will have time after Nov.

Too bad you bought the skins, I've got a pair of alligator and a pair of ostritch boots you could have cut up and had enough skins for the seats. LOL

Nice hides you got there. Lynn you may want to pass that alligator hide info onto Kevin.Godzilla. I know he is a little unhappy with his current stuff due to color alwasy coming off.

Yeah Kevin found the same thing I found when buying the cheap stuff. I was lucky however and took mine back before it got on the truck.

Ill tell him but believe me, he is not going to want to pay for what real alligator costs. It was more than my ostrich. Ostrich is 500 dollars a hide which has 14 sq feet but the area that had the quills is only 6 sq feet. The rest of the hide as you can see in the pics is without quills.

Brad,
I got the Ostrich right from the dealer in Dallas. Thanks for the lead however it looks like a good one.
My interior guy is a real gem. Even as busy as he was the moment my ostrich landed in his shop he stopped everything and is feverishly working on my truck to get it ready for a show in two weeks.

Exotics are super expensive, but when they are done properly, nothing I know looks better.
I think at those prices, I'd be a bit leery about sitting on them though. I know that I'd be extra careful sliding in/out of the seats wearing a pair of jeans with the metal rivets.

Here is what the difference in the seats are.

There will be 58 sq ft of Ostrich in the cab. Thats only 3 sq feet.

I'm at the upholsterer's everyday since he's close so I've watched the transition. It's unbelievably gorgeous.

I wonder how prices compare to this shop here in Laredo... tho they mostly make boots.. but they got all kinds of skins.. theyve made me boots before, fit great.. but I remember him showing me how he had ostrich and other exotics... they also make larger things like saddles and furniture..

There are very few distributors of Ostrich and the all are pretty much the same price for the Grade 1 skins.

There is only one distributor of Alligator and she is in Dallas.
