Just need some ideas or info on how to do it. I bought the light bar on ebay with the lights. They are all wired together in series. I installed the lights and then ran a wire directly to the battery to see if they all worked. They all worked, but the 8 gauge wire I ran to the battery got hot. Granted I know it's supposed to be fused and all that, but should i wire it like it is or break them up into individual or sets of 2 and 3?

Also what kind of amp fuses and switches should I run?
Any links to sites or hardware for this will be greatly appreciated.

TIA!!!!

They should be wired in parallel, not series.

But, 'twere it me, I'd probably do something like wire the outside 2 lights together, and then the inside 3 as a separate circuit. You could use a SPDT switch so that you could have either all 5 on, or just the outer 2 (or alternately, the inner 3).

Are there are wattage or amperage ratings on them? With that I could tell you what gauge wire to use to hook them up properly. You'll also definately be needing relays, don't try to do that setup directly from a switch.

No markings or info on the lights. And when I said series, as in all hots together and all negative together.

I didn't get any relays or switches or wiring with it, just the bar and the lights(it was a good deal) So I'll need to pick up everything.

I do want to wire the outer two separate from the other three.

Ahh, that's parallel wiring. Series is where the positive of one is wired to the negative of the next, and so on. Not very common in automotive applications.

I'll make a wild-ass guess that each light is 150W, max. Watts is Volts X Amps. So, with a 14volt system, thats a little less than 11 amps per light, or about 54 amps total draw. Because of the inrush current when you first turn them on, you'll probably want a 60 amp fuse.

This chart will help determine the proper wire size, looks like a 4 or 6 gauge wire is probably about right.

Length of run (in feet)
Current 0-4...4-7...7-10...10-13...13-16...16-19...19-22...22-28

0-20A.....14....12....12.....10......10.......8........8.....8
20-35A.....12....10.....8.....8.......6........6........6.....4
35-50A.....10....8......8.....6.......6........4........4.....4
50-65A.....8.....8......6.....4.......4........4........4.....2
65-85A.....6.....6......4.....4.......2........2........2.....0
85-105A....6.....6......4.....2.......2........2........2.....0
105-125A...4.....4......4.....2.......2........0........0.....0
