I just finished a 3-weekend long project of renovating my garage. I'll have an article done soon for the site that has all the gory details. I bought 12 "Do-Able" cabinets from Home Depot and 400 sq ft of Black and Silver tiles from RaceDeck.

Very nice, now let's see how long it stays that neat...

I saw some photos of yours comparing the race deck to the Costco alternative. What made you decide on one over the other, price difference?....quality?

I just recently did mine also. Nice job. Are the cabinets new or recycled? I was able to recycle mine. When you do it my way don't have much of a color choice but I loved the way it turned out. Quite simply it's one of my favorite mods to the house.

never mind on the recycle question. I looked at the pictures first and then read the post.... eyes work faster than the brain.

Oh the pressure to keep up with the Jones' (or in this case - the Dukes'). Very nice Chris. I like the approach of using the race tiles.

I keep playing around with the idea of using a color-tinted sealer on the concrete to allow the natural concrete color variances to show through. Then, semi-gloss gray up the walls up to the 4-foot level and flat white above that separated by a red pinstripe. Yeah - right - "One of these days..."

Looks great Chris. I thought about getting a floor similar to that. If it's not too personal, could I ask the cost of the floor? Also, since I do all of my car work on my back under the car, how is the floor to lay on compared to concrete? Sorry for the questions, but I'd like to hear a real testimonial and not advertising hype before investing.

Toolmann, the quality difference between the CostCo "Motofloor" and the real RaceDeck is pretty huge. Also, after buying the Motofloor (which only comes in black AND white or dark gray only), I decided that long-term, white wasn't the best color for our busy garage. The dark gray wasn't that big of a change, so for the small difference in price, the real McCoy was a no-brainer. Plus we got the colors we originally wanted.

Frozone, bring it on.

Vegas, the cost is $3.50 - $4.00 per sq/ft depending on where you buy, and you can get a better deal if you ask around :) The RaceDeck is hard plastic. It's not soft by any means, but it's softer than concrete... just not much.

I compared the hassle and cost to epoxy as well, and epoxy lost. I'm impressed so far with RaceDeck, but I have no idea how well it holds up after years of abuse. It has a 10 year warranty, and if you have a problem with a tile you can pop it up and replace just that one fairly easily.

Nice job on the garage Chris!

Looks very sharp, will you actually park in there or are you afraid it will get dirty?

Looks great!

I have a 12 year old son, between sports equipment, bicycles, scooters, snowboards, skateboards, you name it, he can trash a garage in about 3 minutes.
