Hey ya'll.... The wife just bought me a portable Poineer Airware XM2go radio. <---I have no idea how good this system is.

Anyaway... I wanted to see pic of how you'all mounted your antennas. I thought I saw pics of people routing it through the center roof marker light. How far should the antenna be from the marker light in order not to interfere with reception?

Instructions say the antenna should be mounted to a metalic surface for best reception vs putting it on the dash...what do you'all think? Anyone have any pics or tips?

For example:

a. Did you apply any silicon to the spot on the antenna where the wire comes out? Seems like water could get up in there.
b. Did you place anything between the antenna and the metalic surface to protect the paint or are those little rubber stops good to go.
c. Routing the wire

Also am I stuck using the FM modulator on my stock stereo system or is there a way to hard wire it in?

Thanks guys!

I have sirius, basically the same antenna I think.

Didn't use any silicone, the third light has a gasket

I figured there wouldn't be much if any movement, so there is no reason to put a barrier between the magnet and paint. plus no one will see it on the roof

I pulled out my third brake light then I threaded the plug side through till I could grab it and pull it through. The magnetic part is stuck to the roof, about six inches in front of the light. then I ran the wire ontop (or under, depending on how you think of it) of the headliner, down the A-pillar through the dash and out to my mounting spot. I have a OneFiddy, but the routing should be similar

Hey thanks again man!

I was doing a search and there are quite a few people who say that the reception is just as good if mounted on the dash...what do you think?

I've heard sirius is good t mount in the dash because it has three satellites oribiting in figure 8 patterns rather than two satellites on opposite ends of the earth. I had mine in the dash for a while and it was ok, but overhanging trees messed with the reception. after I mounted it to the roof, I have had little to no interference. In dash mounting might be good if you live in a flat, treeless area

Running the wire through the 3rd brake light is the most common option I've seen.

Part of the reason for mounting it on a metal surface is to give the antenna a good ground plane underneath it. Plus, the roof has a far better view of the sky than the dash board.

I mounted my XM antenna under the wiper cowling on my OneFiddy, and it cuts out a little more than when it was on my roof, but not much. Its definately worth it to me to have a clean roof, since the truck will be about looks mostly when its done.

As far as hard-wiring, its definately worth it if its possible. I modulated on my old truck and am hard-wired on this one, and its night and day, especially in a metro-area with radio stations on just about every frequency. If you have a button on your stock stereo that says AUX, then you can hardwire. If not, you're stuck modulating.

Mine for my Sirius is under the cowl on the 150, I had it on the dash for a while but I could still see it and that wasn't cool
