Tek will correct me if I explain wrong, but here goes:

When the truck was about 5 months old, it began to shift hard and have idle surges. I would change gears(automatic) and there was a delay and it would "jump" into gear. It would worsen when taking off from a stop. While driving, it would surge and then fall back, with or without accelerating. Shifting into reverse was the worst, as I would have to sit until I felt it shift before hitting the gas. I brought it to the dealership, the did something with the computer and it was fine. That was in late 2003. A few months ago it cam eback. We brought it to the dealership again, and I got the famous "unable to replicate". Okay. It's still doing it, more than ever. At a stop, the RPM's will jump up to 850 or so and drop back to 600. Whne I try to get going it'll rev up high and lurch. While i'm driving, all this shit'll happen. It doesn't need a flush. I'm bringing it in this week for the 30k service, but I don't want them to fuck with the computer and say it's good and then it just happens again.
Any ideas?

Not really sure I have any ideas other than just hitting the dealership up as much as possible on the issue, make sure they have it in the computer every time you go in.. This will form the paper trail of the issue... Hope someone has more incite on what the real issue is though..

Lynn,

It is a 2003 XLT Effie with 29,000 miles.

In reality, it feels like the tranny does not engage when it is supposed to. It almost feels like it is a manual the way it is currently.

The idle surging problem definately sounds like a computer issue as does the erratic shifting (The tranny is computer controlled).

This will be the 3rd time it is going in for this, one more and I will start getting angry(ier).

Well with the third time you can go to the lemon law and get the truck replaced. As its still under warranty I would take it in every day it acts up. I would also request in writing that a new tranny be put in with a new computer.

That was what I was trying to get out.. You will have to badger them to death with it.. Sounds like a computer issue or maybe a sensor.. The serge sounds like a sensor in air fuel.. Not sure though, but the fact it's happening and going on and on, you really have to make an ass of yourself to them, do it professionally but be in their face every time.. If the service writer will not help ask for his managers office number and such so that every time it happens you will call him/her... I have used that in the past, it works but takes time from you to do it...

I'm taking it in over by Mike's on Friday morning. I hope the whole fucking truck falls apart there. All I need is my crap out of the bad and my radio and whatnot.

Mumbly and I are in agreement on this. You have to make the service managers groan everytime they see you drive up to their booth. And the owner of the dealership as well. In fact if you drive it out and on the way home it acts up. Make a U turn and take it right back. The squeeky gate gets the grease.

That was the one thing I forgot to say I wanted them to check. Something similar happened to my bronco.

So el trucko is at the dealership as I type. They've found a cracked vent cover/hose mejigger(?) on the transfer case or transmission or something. And fluid was just a-fallin' all over the place. Me thinks this is not the root of the problem, however, because it's been happening since Jan 04. Whatever. They're fixing it, so we'll see. She's also at 30k miles so I'm getting all the other crap serviced as well. Turns out they had a few no-shows so they got my truck in. I know certain things about my truck, but nothing transmission-y, so please forgive my naivete.
