I need a new stereo, and I was surfing Car Toys' website, and found this little jewel. I believe this is a new deck to the market, so I don't expect anybody to have one and tell me how much they love it, but how about JVC's quality in general? I know I'll never go back to a Sony (went through three of those pieces of shit before I got my Kenwood), and I liked my Kenwood, but I'm looking for a bit more features.

Whaddya say?

I've got a JVC 12 disk CD changer in my truck and have had zero problems.

JVC has always made some high quality (Japanese-made) electronics for audio/video, with little or no marketing. I've had lots of JVC products (from audio head units 15 years ago to VHS machines, a camcorder) and had zero problems with any of them. I have a very nice JVC Class-A amp for my home audio system that I'm very happy with also.

I'm pretty sure that JVC == Japanese Victor Company (originally related in some way to RCA Victor). In the old days Victor == Quality.

its ok . .

alpine, eclipse, and pioneer still make the highest quality most user friendly products

i prefer alpine because it is classier, sounds better than pioneer, and does without the gaudy colors that pioneer and eclipse use

Thanks for the opinions. I called my hookup with Car Toys, and there isn't much of a discount on it (probably because its so new), so he's looking into some units that they had on sale for "stupid low prices," as he put it. So I may get this one, I may not. We'll see.

Might be better if I got another one, since this one is Sirius ready, and I'd still have to use my XM tuner (not switching over, I like XM).

Crutchfield has it for $600 right now, and it comes with free shipping and a pair of speakers.

I'd thought of that, and still might. I was planning on relocating my power window and door lock switches to the empty space created by the half-size stereo, but I could put those elsewhere.

I did decide to go back to Kenwood. I sacrificed the video (can't watch it while driving anyway) to go with a KDC-MPV8025 that I got a steal on. $150 installed through Car Toys mobile audio, which is about $300 less than my buddy paid for the same unit a year or so ago.

Sounds great. I was bumping some Dr. Dre last night.
