Hi Folks,

Spent some Samolians today. The Mrs. and I have been talking about buying new bikes for quite a while, and got serious about it last weekend. The added cool bonus for me...another truck mod. :) This afternoon I bought a Yakima 'Full Swing 4' bike carrier, and then followed that up with a visit to a highly recommended bike shop.

What a great experience. The manager had each of us test ride a number of bikes, and we finally settled on a set of Iron Horse 'Warrior' mountain bikes - 17" frame size for Kim and 19" for me. We felt like a couple of kids riding around tonight, and in case anyone had any doubt, yes I do look like a dork with a bike helmet on my melon.

I'll get some pics up this weekend after assembling the carrier.

Take care,
Jerry

That was our exact motivation - exercise that we can do together. There are some awesome trails in our area, but I don't have any aspirations of jumps or serious mountain riding. :)

We actually tried a few of the cross-over and hybrid styles, but both preferred mountain bikes. It was somewhat surprising to see how much you can spend on one of these things. We ended up getting nicer bikes than we expected (imagine that!) and still spent well less on both than some of the higher-end models. Hydraulic disc brakes on a bike...how awesome is that?

Take care,
Jerry

Someone has seen Napoleon Dynomite

I used to be an avid mountain biker, I live next to a huge state park and rode all the trails all over. On occasion, I would ride 17 miles round trip to Jones Beach from my house.

My apologies in advance if I'm being rude, but can I ask about your illness? Not sure if you remember - we met at the Union City show earlier this year.

Okay, before this is a complete hijack of my own thread we went on a 25 mile ride this afternoon. My butt hurts like hell. :) Sure was fun, though. I still can't get over the fact that my bike has disc brakes as well as front & rear suspension. Also got the Yakima carrier mounted this morning - what an impressive piece of gear.

Take care,
Jerry

P.S. Tek - forgot to ask - have you ever heard of Iron Horse bikes? I was totally unfamiliar with them, but found it interesting to hear that they're based in Long Island.

Believe me, if I ever considered wearing something like that, I'd trust that you would kill me. :)

Here are some shots...

Overall I'm very impressed with the carrier. In full schwing it allows plenty of room to access the bed of the pickup as well as the cargo area of the SUV. Mounting the bikes is a bit tedious, but that's partly my fault for buying bikes with such an aggressive frame design.

Take care,
Jerry

mountain bikin is great exercise and fun as well

btw, I don't know what kind of riding you have there but the single track around here can be heavyily wooded and nasty. Everyone looks like a dork with a bike helmet on, but your melon will love you for it when you hit the ground or have some dead wood fall from a tree and land on you

Hey HaulinIt,

There are two things that really bother me about your 'contribution'. First is the fact that you're posting to a thread that's been dead for almost two years. But the second thing is how you share with us how you and the kids get to have fun together in your used U-Haul truck that you got for a pretty good price. But things unravel when I trace your IP address back to (and this is a copy & paste) "UHAUL INTERNATIONAL, INC. SPRINTLINK".

You really ought to be ashamed of yourself. Did you really think people buy your thinly veiled Spam?

You'd think that U-Haul International could afford to buy advertising as do other reputable companies. But instead you try this crap? You just reinforced for me why I will NEVER rent a U-Haul.

What an underhanded Fucktard.

I wish these Spammers were like serial killers in that they would come back and revisit their handiwork every now and then. At least then they would get a feel for the love we share for them.
