im getting a throttle body spacer on my 2002 silverado, i was wondering if that would mess with the throtle/cruise cables. i know that i already gota trim up my cold air intake so it fits |

well the main part of the increase in mpg and power is cus i put 300+ miles on in a week and when i go to the pump and figure out my mpg i hate seeing the 14.5 and for power , during the winter i use a 20foot flatbed trailer to haul wood and its loaded. So im lookin for not as expensive mod(s) to help out, so i can get "ROI", if that throttle body spacer woulda worked that would have been great since is was only $63. maybe ill have to research the electric fan. The more expensive thing i was lookin at was a hyertech max energy chip, it has different setting for economy and power

Alex, increasing your mileage AND gaining power are often in contradiction with each other. There's ways to gain both but you've got to plan out your build and you've got to be willing to spend some money if you want to do it right.
The bad part about doing that is you're no doubt looking for a return on your investment - otherwise what's the sense if you're not going to gain fuel economy and only gain power. That's only half what you're looking for.
You've got to look at the price of a modification and calculate out how long it's going to take for you to regain that cost - the ROI (return on investment). However, if you're okay with just bumping up the power - damn the savings - that's fine too if that's your goal.
Here's something I found that help me out in gaining mileage as well as power (an added 17rwhp!). Check out installing an electric fan in place of your engine-driven cooling fan. Not sure what one would cost for the Silverado - but there's some out there that are fairly reasonably priced. Go check it out... |

well the throttle body spacer was a fail. didnt work with the cold air intake, so i got my $$ back. But is was looking into the intake manifold spacer, anyone know a good site to look at? |

They don't work on fuel injection. The idea is to allow the fuel and air more time to mix before entering the combustion chamber. |

Yeah...no power gains. Mike Wilkes dyno'ed his Superduty (the V10) with the TB spacer, and without. It lost power, and the TB spacer went on eBay.
Might as well get a Tornado air cleaner too. |

You will actually loose power. I did a true dyno test with one on my 2002. They are designed for carburators, not fuel injectors. I lost 10 rwhp with the throttle body spacer. It does add a cool supercharger sound, but you WILL LOOSE POWER. Most people think you gain power, but it is a mental thing, I proved it does not work (actually sitting on the dyno without changing a thing except by removing the throttle body spacer). |

I actually think over time it made a difference. There is so many myths about these that you either use or lose it. I have had 4 different intakes since new in 1999 and never once removed the spacer since 2000. |

The spacer should come with any and all brackets and mounts so you do not have to trim/modify anything. I didn't when I done mine 9 years ago. |
