In research conducted by the Specialty Equipment Market Association (also known as "SEMA"), even after a 32% drop in new-pickup truck sales last month, SEMA found a one percent increase in automotive enthusiasts' demand for customizing their pickup trucks. This just means that owners are keeping their trucks longer due to the increase in price for new pickup trucks, as well as fuel costs. More importantly, the light-truck segment of the automotive market has been on the rise for several years, accounting for 42.3 percent of manufacturer sales in 2007 alone. Maybe there really is light at the end of the tunnel?

| | The Big Show Rodeo Is Over With Chrysler
According to Chrysler Weblog, Chrysler LLC will no longer be unveiling their new models in large scale, "theatrical" events that have gained so much attention in the past, such as the stampede of steers that raided Detroit in January. The reason is for cutting costs and shining "spotlight on more of its vehicles than pyrotechnics" said Robert Nardelli, Chief Executive. The cost cuts are part of a company plan for more "straight forward" introductions of vehicles, leading to a "shift in thinking".

| 2009 Volkswagen Taro Truck Found
Our friend, Mike Levine of Pickuptruck.com, got his hands on some photos of the 2009 Volkswagen Taro pickup truck and apparently spotted some of the "Volkswagens executives checking out the 2009 Ford F-150 during the 2008 Detroit Auto Show", which leads us to believe that they are developing their new truck as a competitor to the new 2009 F-150. Maybe we'll see this new pickup being tested this summer? It should be interesting.

| | | | Sell More Vehicles By Removing The Gas Cap
Yahoo Finance reported this morning, that Ford has begun to eliminate gas caps from all of their new models because "People just don't like the cap", stated Matt O'Leary, a Ford Chief Engineer. "In addition to the convenience factor, the capless system also has environmental benefits, by limiting the escape of gasoline vapors". You'll find a cap-less 2009 F-150, when it hits dealer lots this fall. Will this help increase sales? We'll see.

It's like I'm opening my own room to the public. But I want to share it," designer Joann Jung said. Reported by The Detroit News.

| | | | | | | | | | | | 2009 Ford F-150 First Photo The first press embargo was busted wide open on the 2009 Dodge Ram courtesy of The New York Times. Now they went ahead and did it again for the partially re-designed 2009 Ford F-150. I'm starting to think this was intentional -- how could a major publication such as NYT make such a huge mistake? Tisk, Tisk. Here's the only photo released thus far.
Update: 1/12/2008 11:10AM: The New York Times has removed the F-150 photo. So that we do not look like the bad guy here, we have removed it as well. Check back within the next day or two for its re-appearance!
Update: 1/13/2008 12:15AM: The official Ford embargo has been lifted for the 2009 Ford F-150 press photos. Look at all of the Ford F-150 photos here.
