Land Rover are apparently having problems naming their new 7 seat luxury sport utility vehicle that is due to release in 2010. Currently labeled the LR3 and offered to seat 5, the third row seat being added is such a large upgrade in Land Rover's eyes that they are contemplating on naming the new sport utility vehicle as the LR4. Don't you think it would be easier to just give it an "XL", "L" to the model name, or simply classify it by the amount of seating such as a LR5 for a 5 seater and LR7 for a 7 seater? In an article by US News, with gas prices climbing past the $4.00 dollar per gallon mark nation wide, SUV trade in values and sales have fallen over 14 percent in March alone, compared to the same time one year ago. The SUV used car sales have been so bad, that some dealers have been forced to sell them overseas, facing expensive transportation costs and little profit. Al Johnson of AutoNation's Maroone Nissan in Pembroke, Florida said "the dealership had been exporting about one car a month" in recent years, but this year they average roughly 10".
Ford Motor Company confirmed today that they have sold their Jaguar and Land Rover brands to India's Tata Motors, for over $2 Billion. The deal also includes that Ford will pay nearly $600 Million in pension funds for Jaguar and Land Rover employees. Ford will continue to supply engines and body parts to Tata Motors for the two brands. Jaguar and Land Rover's petrol engines are currently built at a Ford plant in South Whales, and their diesel engines are produced in Dagenham, located in eastern London. Land Rover have been preparing a new series of models that will utilize their new V8 petrol engine, found in Range Rovers and Jaguars. The new 5.0 liter V8s using direct injection, are being offered with an optional supercharger, which is believed to produce 460 base horse power for the supercharged version, and 350 base horse power in the naturally aspirated version. A hybrid diesel drivetrain is also in the works, although no details have been released yet. Reported by Car Magazine UK.

The ARB 4x4 Accessories had a cool set up at their booth for SEMA last week, showcasing their ARB Touring rooftop tent system above a 2008 Toyota FJ Cruiser. These tents are mounted on the roof of a vehicle, unfolding in minutes and allows for protection from the elements.
"Automaker Ford Motor may sell Land Rover, a maker of four-wheel-drive vehicles, along with Jaguar, as part of a shake-up of its British brands, The Sunday Times newspaper reported. Ford's senior management, led by Chairman and chief Executive Bill Ford Jr., was considering packaging the two marques together and selling a majority stake to a financial investor," MSNBC reports.

gizmag (UK) reports, "Land Rover has spiced up its Range Rover Sport to create a new flagship, the Supercharged 'HST' specification. The new HST will be based on the Supercharged specification with the additional equipment including: electric sunroof, an electronic active locking rear differential and privacy glass. The interior is distinguished by a unique hand polished lined oak trim. The exterior design is the work of the same Land Rover team that created the original Range Stormer. It includes new flush-fitting front and rear bumpers..."
