More in: Ford | Comments | Permalink | 42,621 Views

Ford secretly removed the "Fat Boy" option from the 2010 Ford F-350 Super Duty lineup due to low demand for the option. Containing a widetrack monobeam front suspension and extended axle, the setup is a standard configuration for the F-450 which uses Class 4 suspension. Dropping the option also tightened the F-350's turning radius from 56 feet to 50 feet, useful on city streets.

Ford Explains Use Of Internal Triple Bypass Shocks on F-150 SVT Raptor
More in: Ford, Off-Road, Racing, SVT Raptor | Comments | Permalink | 41,248 Views

Ford’s Special Vehicle Team (SVT) and FOX Racing Shox are taking consumers where no other OEM has taken them before: off-road in the desert with the internal triple bypass shocks, exclusively available on the 2010 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor – an industry-first on a production truck. With 12.1 inches of usable travel in the rear suspension and 11.2 inches in the front, the softly sprung suspension has enough travel to handle the toughest terrain in the desert. Usable travel is what matters – most trucks have seven to eight inches, but are so stiffly sprung that the actual movement is much less.

2010 Dodge Ram Will NOT Have Rear Coil Spring Suspension
More in: Chrysler, Dodge | Comments | Permalink | 23,928 Views

According to Sean Holman of Four Wheeler Magazine, Chrysler will be abandoning their revolutionary coil spring rear axle on the 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 in return for leaf sprung suspension again. After facing pressure from Chrysler hierarchy, the skeptical multi-link rear suspension is not competitive enough with other manufacturers, dipping below the 10,000 pound towing capacity mark. Deleting the 3/4 ton capability the Dodge Ram 1500 currently has will grant the truck an immediate 225 pound increase in payload and a much higher towing capacity. Expect the changes to occur next year in February.

The students are trying to commercialize their product and have found interest from the United States' military and several manufacturers of commercial truck lines. Good luck guys!

Pickup Truck And SUV Sales May Be In The Tank, But Aftermarket Accessories Are Not
In research conducted by the Specialty Equipment Market Association (also known as "SEMA"), even after a 32% drop in new-pickup truck sales last month, SEMA found a one percent increase in automotive enthusiasts' demand for customizing their pickup trucks. This just means that owners are keeping their trucks longer due to the increase in price for new pickup trucks, as well as fuel costs. More importantly, the light-truck segment of the automotive market has been on the rise for several years, accounting for 42.3 percent of manufacturer sales in 2007 alone. Maybe there really is light at the end of the tunnel?

The new truck is definitely the best yet that Ford has debuted, but I don't know of anyone right now that is in the market for an 8,000 pound truck that pulls off a fuel efficiency rating of 12 miles per gallon. Is this the right timing Ford?
