In an article by US News, with gas prices climbing past the $4.00 dollar per gallon mark nation wide, SUV trade in values and sales have fallen over 14 percent in March alone, compared to the same time one year ago. The SUV used car sales have been so bad, that some dealers have been forced to sell them overseas, facing expensive transportation costs and little profit. Al Johnson of AutoNation's Maroone Nissan in Pembroke, Florida said "the dealership had been exporting about one car a month" in recent years, but this year they average roughly 10".
In an article by BusinessWeek, Americans are now consuming less gasoline, resulting in less vehicles on the road due to high gasoline prices. In a study conducted in Palm Beach County, Florida, for the past 20 years, workers have been counting vehicles with special sensors to monitor their activity. Nearly every year since the study started, the number of vehicles on the road has risen at least 2 percent annually. However in 2007, traffic levels noticed a decline, and so far for 2008 are down 7.5 percent.
Andrew Posner of TreeHugger.com says that the price for a gallon of gas is selling for around $3.00 per gallon in New Jersey, a price that is lower than the nations average of $3.51. Why, you ask? Here's your answer. "New Jersey has the nation’s third-lowest gasoline tax, at 14.5 cents a gallon, and it hasn’t gone up in almost two decades".

The USA Today has published an article about automotive manufacturers producing more cars that run off premium gasoline, at a time when prices at the pump are breaking records every day. In an analysis by Kelley Blue Book, the number of new vehicles that need premium gasoline has risen from 166 vehicles in the 2002 model year to 282 vehicles this year, almost double the amount at a time when fuel efficiency is of great importance.

Rostra Precision Controls Inc. has introduced a RearSight back-up camera system for the 2008 Nissan Titan and 2008 Ford F-150. The new RearSight system is designed to assist drivers in avoiding back-up accidents. Rostra's kit features 0.5 Lux shrouded CCD color camera that mounts in the license plate section of the truck. The camera has a 150-degree, anti-fog lens and a waterproof case.
Earlier this year, YouTube's nottasrt4 spotted a Nissan 350Z with a "modified K&M Supercharger" in the wild. With camcorder in hand, he recorded a mini-documentary of what he saw. In an article by The Detroit News, more and more automakers are jumping on the fuel economy bandwagon, and are beginning to convert over to diesel fueled engines as a new standard. "Although they are more costly to produce, diesel engines get about 25 percent better mileage than traditional gas-powered engines" stated Jim Hossack of AutoPacific Inc. Nissan has announced that they are cutting back on two of their U.S truck assembly plants, from a five day, eight hours per day work week to four days, nine hours per day. The plants effected by the changes are in Smyrna, Tennessee, and Clanton, Mississippi. Nissan initiated the change due to inventory levels on dealer lots, whose sales dropped 2.9 percent in February.

Nissan North America, Inc. (NNA) announced that the midsize pickup truck it will produce for Suzuki Motor Corp. will be based on the Frontier midsize pickup and built at Nissan's manufacturing facility in Smyrna, Tenn. Production of the pickup truck will begin in 2008.
In the December 24, 2007 issue of Newsweek, Nissan Motor Company CEO Carlos Ghosn stated in an interview, hints of a possible cancellation of the Titan pickup, "The name of the game is going to be more fuel-efficient cars..And when you make your product plans for the future, you can't say, 'I've always had a pickup truck, so I'll just keep improving it.' If you can't make it profitably, you have to get out".
Whether this hint will lead to the death of the slow-selling Titan (only 60,961 trucks to date) or not, we are not quite sure. However when your competitors, like the Dodge Ram, are selling 326,177 trucks and the 2007 Toyota Tundra at 177,336 trucks, not including Ford and Chevy, your full-size pickup market just got smaller.

Driven for diesels and rising fuel prices, US Automakers are scrambling to offer diesel engine combinations in their popular light-duty pickup trucks. Ford Motor Company has been reporting about their new diesel engine for the 2009 F-150, and may be the first manufacturer to offer the package, but Nissan & Toyota may be in the race as well. Nissan & Toyota plan to offer a diesel engines for their Titan & Tundra pickups, however no concrete dates have been announced. General Motors has been the last to announce any use of a diesel engine in their U.S. light trucks. AutoWeek reports.

Number three automaker, Nissan Motor Company, is debuting a clean diesel engine for their X-Trail SUV model in Japan, for the fall of 2008. This clean diesel engine is being developed to lower exhaust gas emissions to levels comparable to those of new emission standards in Japan.
