Edmunds Inside Line, published their test drive review of the 2009 Honda Pilot, which boasts a 250-hp V6 with the variable displacement management and a 5 speed transmission, that when combined, achieves an average of 17 miles per gallon in the city and 23 miles per gallon on the highway. As Executive Editor, Michael Jordan, stated "...the 2009 Honda Pilot relentlessly improving space-efficiency, utility, fuel economy and performance". To read their full review, click here.
As an update to our previous blog, Hummer H3T Pickup Truck Put To The Test, Mike Levine has now posted his full review, as well as an video interview, of the new 2009 Hummer H3T Alpha in action. Check out the video inside.
Pickuptruck.com have posted their review of the 2008 Dodge Dakota as well, although the results were not so satisfying. "Although the Dakota has an obvious edge with the V8 offering, fingers point to the Nissan Frontier for all-around small truck satisfaction in this comparison". The article highlights the newly redesigned truck features, such as the beefy 4.7-liter V8, exterior styling, and interior upgrades. Check out the review by clicking here.
Back in October of last year, Chris and I were lucky enough to test drive the new 2008 Ford F-450 at an exclusive media event at Ford's proving grounds in Romeo, Michigan, just outside of Detroit. Although these heavy duty trucks were put to the test (and we were very happy with the results), we never had the chance to test them in the "real world".
Mike Levine of Pickuptruck.com released his opinion today of the TRD Supercharged 2008 Toyota Tacoma, which dials in at a price tag of nearly $37,000 dollars, a bit steep for a mid-size truck. The supercharger option sets you back a good $4,000, and with gas prices at over $4 per gallon, I do not think customers will be requesting that option all that much. The estimated EPA gas mileage numbers for the Tacoma are 18 miles per gallon in the city, which is not that much better from its bigger brother, the full-size Tundra at 14 miles per gallon.
Autoblog wrote a very informative and "breathless" review of the 2008 Dodge Dakota Sport pickup truck. Dodge offers a 302-hp 4.7L V8 platform for the midsized pickup, which turns out to be a perfect power output combination.
Popular reviewing company, Consumer Reports, have rated their top cars and trucks for 2008, and have selected the newly redesigned Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Crew Cab pickup as their truck winner. Consumer Reports stated "the redesigned Silverado is considerably improved.
AutoWeek have posted their not-so-good review of the Jeep Compass Sport 4x4, slamming the SUV for its features and stating "We can't think of a better candidate to disappear".
Edmunds Inside Line has really stepped it up a notch, placing a 2008 Hummer H3 Alpha to the test and pushing its capabilities. As you will see in the video, the H3 Alpha was taken off-road and pushed through mud, trails, and more. There are not many times where you see a vehicle be truly tested, and Edmunds pushed the H3 Alpha to do wheelies. You can view the video here, within their review of the 2008 Hummer H3 Alpha.
Autoweek has published their review of the 2008 Nissan Frontier Nismo King Cab, stating "This is a nice piece to drive, solidly built, plenty of power, good steering feel and handling, given what it is, even a really nice ride for an off-roadable truck. The Nismo folks have gotten their sums right." Powered by a 260 horse power 4.0 liter V-6, this little pickup is guaranteed to handle the trails. Click Here to check out the review.
Edmunds Inside Line has posted their review of the 2008 Toyota Sequoia Limited 4x4 SUV, stating "The new Sequoia might have the backbone of a simple pickup truck, but it could be the perfect full-size luxury sport-utility". Powered by a 381 horse power 5.7-liter V8 and 6 speed automatic transmission, the "power delivery is smooth and civilized, with gentle throttle tip-in and a wide, manageable spread of torque". Check out the detailed review by visiting this link.
AutoWeek, have posted their review of the 2008 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer 4x4 Edition, stating the new SUV "handled a snowy weekend in Detroit with ease". With all the furious competition in the SUV market, the Ford Explorer still proves to be a serious contender, and offers great features with supreme dependability.
BlueOvalNews has released their review of the 2007 Saleen S331 Supercharged F-150 and as it turns out, this is one bad truck! From a supercharged 5.4 V8 that produces 450 base horse power and 500 foot pounds of torque, this truck provides "functionality with radical performance.” Click this link to read the full review of this radical truck.
Consumer Reports has released their reviews on the Ford F-150, Chevy Silverado, Dodge Ram, and Toyota Tundra, and the results are surprising. "The Tundra, formerly a smaller, refined truck with carlike ride and handling, now goes head-to-head with GM and Ford in power, towing, payload capacity, and size. But it lost some refinement and livability in the redesign. Its superior drivetrain also yields class-leading acceleration. Thoughtful accommodations also help the Tundra top this group." Sometimes I communicate with my friends through email or by phone, but rarely do I use Truckblog. That was until today when Jim at Full-Size Chevy blogged about Truckblog at his site. Full-Size Chevy is a massive Chevy truck enthusiast site that caters specifically to the (you guessed it) full size trucks manufactured by Chevy and GMC.
The forums area is very active, and there's even a member gallery if you'd like to check out other member's rides or post your own pics. Jim also hooked up a blog to allow him to cover the latest industry news and well, talk about Truckblog! So if you haven't seen FSC yet, y'all best get on over to FullSizeChevy.com and get your bowtie on.
PickupTruck.com went to Michigan and put seven gas and diesel heavy duty pickups to the test. As part of one of their shootout, they took the group of mammoth trucks to Ford Motor Company's, Michigan Proving Grounds and performed vigorous tests. Check out the intense results.
According to Ezra Dyer of the New York Times reviewe the 2007 Dodge Ram STR10, "This truck could be more politically incorrect only if it ran on whale oil and panda tears. The SRT10 is not a truck of half-measures — it’s gleefully over-the-top in just about every way. Its 510-horsepower engine, borrowed from the Dodge Viper, is a callous brute, rocking the truck on its suspension even at idle. At full throttle, the four-speed automatic shifts so hard that you expect to see it in the rearview mirror, scattered about the pavement."
Pioneers that they are, the editors at PRIMEDIA's Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords have toiled with much determination and moxie to produce their first issue of Ford Truck Performance, a quarterly publication dedicated to the Ford F-Series trucks. Even the advertisements, meager as they might be, are heavily Ford truck weighted and even go so far as to use Ford trucks in the pictures when vehicles are shown. After scrutinizing the premier issue cover to cover it is obvious that this magazine will be a hit as the articles are very well written, edited and chock-full of superior content as compared to the feeble and incompetent attempts of other publishers.

On your last trip camping with the family, did you have enough room in your truck or SUV for everything? If you're going camping, biking or even out for a round of golf with the guys, is there enough room for everyone plus their gear without using the roof of your SUV or bed of your truck? We found the StowAway®2 Carrier line of products to be the perfect solution for this problem (unless you are towing a boat or trailer).

If you're not into the electric power steps on your truck, but would like a more rugged and practical installation, take a look at the wheel to wheel, solid-steel construction steps manufactured by N-Fab.

If your one of Truckblog.com's thousands of dedicated daily readers, you know how we are avid fans of the best off-road lift manufacturer on the market, Donahoe Racing. The reason DR is so good at what they do is because they are a off-road race shop first, and building race suspensions gives you a ton of insight into manufacturing off-road suspensions.

If you own a SuperDuty and you plan to turn it into an off-road beast, one of the better online places to buy off-road gear and swag for your rig is Gilbert, Arizona's very own Super Duty Headquarters. These guys specialize in anything off-road for the Ford Super Duty and they even have a shelf or two of parts for the F-150 & Ranger folks out there.

How many of us out there collect shirts and other items of clothing that easily let people know how much we actually like cars, trucks or really anything that can make massive amounts of noise, belch carbon dioxide and propel us in a forward motion? I know I collect shirts from all the different car & truck shows and places I attend around the country.

A truly customized truck means that the owner has modified EVERYTHING about the truck while staying within the theme or look they originally envisioned and hopefully without over-extending his or her bank account for too long. If this sounds like you, Truckblog has found a must have modification for you that enables you to customize your vehicle's manufacturer badges, without breaking the bank.

Thanks to Kuz over at VehicleShoot.com for featuring Truckblog.com on the home page of his site for the entire month of December as the "Site of the Month".
He reviewed us by saying "If you are looking for interesting truck articles and want to post your two cents then I would first recommend Truckblog. You will also find features, reviews, & show galleries."
When Jake and I aren't somehow involved with the physical world of trucks, we are spending most of our time in the virtual world of trucks--that being the web. There are so many incredible truck websites out there that we figured we would honor their online accomplishments by starting a weekly department called "Truckblog Site Of The Week". We wanted to go with our "Whateverblog" naming convention like our Friday "Beerblog", and "Truckblog" is already taken (ha!) and "Siteblog" just sounds stupid. So since Jake is off shooting a feature for the site and I haven't been able to come up with something different, here is our first "Truckblog Site Of The Week" (feel free to hit "Comments" and make a suggestion for something better!)
Our first award goes to...
The Baller's Journal
(5/5)
After careful review of our favorites (which will be in the spotlight in the near future), we agreed that "The Baller's Journal" was the clear winner of our first award. Why? It is not your normal enthusiast website... in fact it's not like anything else we have ever seen on the web. While this isn't a 100% dedicated truck site, the majority of the vehicles featured are trucks.
