The all-new 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 earned top honors in Edmunds’ Inside Line head-to-head competition of full-size pickup trucks. The Dodge Ram 1500 beat the 2009 Ford F-150, Chevy Silverado and Toyota Tundra. The all-new 2009 Dodge Ram continues to win accolades, receiving 15 awards since its introduction last fall. “After all the points were tallied, the Dodge Ram takes the win with a very well-rounded performance,” wrote Dan Edmunds, Director of Vehicle Testing, Edmunds.com. “The optional RamBox proved itself useful by swallowing 85 pounds of greasy trailer hitch parts in its lockable bins, and its repositionable bed divider is easily the best of its kind.”
Chrysler LLC today announced new May incentives that appeal to what consumers want, and reflect in the bottom line price of a new vehicle. “Chrysler LLC is building a new car company, and we are asking consumers to come see what we are building for you as we begin a vibrant new phase of our company,” said Steven Landry, Executive Vice President North American Sales and Marketing, Global Service and Parts – Chrysler LLC. “Consumers are telling us that the net purchase price of the vehicle is the most important factor right now, so we are pleased to introduce incentives that address what the consumer is looking for.”
If Chrysler potentially canceling the Jeep Wrangler, Dodge Ram and Dodge Dakota this morning didn't piss you off, then this probably will (Mort especially). The Detroit News has reported that a federal judge has approved Chrysler LLC to receive a $4.5 billion dollar aid package from U.S. and Canadian government loans in order to "stay in bankruptcy". A Chrysler adviser said "it's highly unlikely the company will repay" their loans to the government. Chrysler's bankruptcy attorney called the loan a "lifeline" for Chrysler and "to let this company live" with the current aid money. The attorney continued with "The survival of Chrysler's business is at stake in these proceedings, as is the fate of hundreds of suppliers and thousands of Chrysler dealers around the country".
According to Autoweek, Ford is delaying the F-150's diesel engine from it's current expected release date in 2010. Ford's President of the Americas Mark Fields said "No new date has been scheduled" and "We've put it on the back burner for right now". An insider with one Ford plant said "the diesel F-150 has officially been delayed until 2013" but "it will likely be canceled outright".
Edmunds Inside Line have uncovered information regarding the state of Jeep and the liquidation of Chrysler LLC. The liquidation reports detailed as part of Chrysler's filing of bankruptcy point at a possible deletion of the Jeep brand. "assumes that certain car lines and the plant assets supporting them will be sold as going-concern enterprises. These lines include Jeep Wrangler, Dodge Viper and Dodge Ram and Dakota truck lines". The report goes on to say "These additional costs include in excess of $100 million for signage to establish a dealer network, supplier-related costs exceeding $250 million and upwards of another $150 million in associated marketing costs to relaunch the car line. There are likely other significant costs that a potential buyer would have to incur in order to re-establish the brand. In addition, recent market experience reflected in the efforts to sell Saturn, Opel, Saab and Hummer brands indicates an extremely depressed market for stand-alone automotive brands". We think if these news breaks are indeed true and Chrysler makes these moves as stated in their bankruptcy reports, the company will fail guaranteed.
The country will have to wait a bit longer to see both of the spectacular Banks' Sidewinder Duramax Diesel Drag machines running at the same event. Both Banks’ Sidewinder Top Diesel and record-holding Sidewinder S-10 Pick-Up were both scheduled to take part in the TS Performance Outlaw Drags, set for this Saturday, May 9 at Beech Bend Dragstrip in Bowling Green, Kentucky. They'll need to take a bye on that date.

Ford Motor Company are looking better and better these days thanks to the bailout crisis of Chrysler and the confused state of General Motors. The only automaker from Detroit to decline federal aid of loans, Ford Motor Company are creating a positive image of the company and separating from the rest of the pack. 63 percent of respondents look at Ford in a "positive light" now, compared to the 41 percent just a year ago. Ford took a huge risk when declining the government aid but now it seems their PR efforts are paying off.
Beyond 0 percent financing on select models and payment protection for a full year, Ford Motor Company is expanding its Ford Advantage Plan to ensure critical breast cancer services aren’t compromised while charities work to weather the challenging economy. Today, Ford is announcing it will donate $20 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure® in the name of each prospective customer that test drives a Ford, Lincoln or Mercury vehicle through June 1, 2009, up to $1 million. Dealers also may match Ford’s individual $20 contributions in the name of each customer, up to $1,000 per dealership.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued a warning for owners of 2002 to 2005 Ford Explorer and Mercury Mountaineer SUV's due to 200 complaints where the vehicles were said to have gone out of park and into reverse on its own. During those model years, nearly 1.5 million SUV's were produced which could possibly result in a massive recall for Ford. No issue has been recalled yet but the NHTSA are taking a "preliminary evaluation... to assess the scope, frequency and potential safety consequences of the alleged defect and any relationship of the alleged gearshift lever mechanism failures to the alleged vehicle rollaway incidents". A Ford spokes person also commented, "We do not see a safety risk and we will be fully cooperating with the government with the investigation".
The Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series (LOORRS) rolls into the Valley of the Sun as short course off road racing comes to Speedworld for rounds 3 and 4 in Surprise, Arizona on May 2nd and 3rd. Arizona will be playing host to the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series for the first time with the long awaited arrival of high impact, high energy short course off road racing. The popular off road racing series is sure to make an immediate impact with the raucous roar of 850HP Unlimited Trucks combined with the wail of Light Trucks and high strung buggies. The anticipated Speedworld event is sure to draw a significant crowd from an off road savvy fan base that has been clamoring for an area event since the emergence of short course off road racing in the West.
A news station in Boston has discovered a problem with Toyota Tundra pickup trucks where heavy amounts of rust have been showing up on the frames of the popular pickups. The problem effects 2000 to 2001 model year Tundra's, where their frames were cracking, panels falling off, and "unsafe to drive". Some Toyota Tacoma's are also said to have had similar problems. The Boston news station is reporting that Toyota is buying back the effected models at over market value, based off of Kelly Blue Book prices in order to quick fix the solutions with customers and avoid being sued. Toyota has not commented on the total number of cases effected by rust.

Ford is working on a documentary film about their 2010 F-150 SVT Raptor production pickup truck build as well as their Raptor R race truck which was featured in the Baja 1,000 last year. The film is expected to be released this summer but for now here's a trailer.
With the addition of popular standard equipment, including safety features, the base MSRP for Sequoia will range from $38,530 for the SR5 4x2 with a new 4.6-liter V8 engine to $58,905 for the Platinum 4x4 with a 5.7-liter V8. The new MSRPs reflect an average overall increase of $3,361 for all Sequoia models. For 2010, Sequoia provides a much higher level of popular standard features and safety enhancements. The SR5 and Platinum grade models become mono-spec and the Limited grade offers only three stand alone options (navigation system, rear-seat entertainment and seven-passenger seating), giving consumers a more simplified buying process.
Originally created for diesel trains after the replacement of steam trains and for commercial level trucks, the train horn was developed to create a very loud noise for safety purposes when approaching railroads, crossings, and more. In today's world, train horns are an extremely popular modification among heavy duty and large pickup truck owners. Some enthusiasts install them for safety but a majority of owners do it for the cool factor. If I had a heavy duty truck I would too!
