2011 Light-Duty Crew Cab Business Planned for GM Flint Assembly

To meet increased market demand, General Motors Company will invest more than $21 million to produce the 2011 Chevrolet light-duty crew cab at the GM Flint Assembly plant in Flint, Mich., beginning in mid-2010. GM Flint Assembly is GM's sole producer of GM's heavy-duty crew cab trucks, the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra. Flint Assembly also produces the heavy-duty regular cab Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra. The $21-million investment in the Flint Assembly plant will include renovating the existing heavy-duty assembly process, new machinery, equipment and tooling to support the light-duty crew cab production in the plant.

Toyota Moves Tacoma Production To San Antonio Plant

News across the net has come up today stating Toyota will be moving production of their popular Tacoma pickup truck to their San Antonio, Texas plant in replacement of some Tundra pickup shifts. The company will spend $100 million making the switch for the Tacoma, also hiring around 1,100 new employees for the job. Local communities and workers are excited, as a second shift was cut from that factory last year due to slumping sales and the economy.

Ford Adds Shifts For F-150 and Escape To Meet Demand

Ford Motor Company today announced it is adding third production shifts at its Dearborn Truck Plant and Kansas City Assembly Plant’s sport utility line to help meet strong demand for Ford F-150 pickups and Escape utility vehicles. In August, Ford expects to post its first monthly year-over-year sales increase for F-Series trucks since October 2006, as well as another record-setting sales month for Escape.
