Word has come out that the folks over at Ford are being sued for allegedly selling Ford F-150 trucks with gas tanks with defective fuel tank linings. Worse, the lawsuit alleges that Ford knew about the problem and continued to sell the trucks without taking care of the problem or issuing a recall.
Information from the complaint shows that F-150 models sold from 1999 through 2008 we built with these faulty gas tanks. The supposed issue with the thanks is that the interior lining is substandard and may separate and flake off. This would result in trucks having clogged fuel systems which would cause them to hesitate, stall, run very rough or not start at all. The class action suit also alleges that Ford knew of the problem and issued an internal secret memo to dealers on the issue. No supposed memo has been leaked or released at this time however. We will have to wait and see what other information comes to light on this situation and if the NHTSA has any prior knowledge or is now involved.
