Investigation into mysterious Jeep Liberty airbag deployment is being ramped up

[ 0 ] January 31, 2012 |

In September of last year the NHTSA began an investigation into the possible problem of random airbag deployment problems with the 2002 and 2003 Jeep Liberty. Initially 39 reports of airbag deployments not due to a crash or collision were reported. Now that number has grown to 87.

Both the NHTSA and Chrysler have been looking into the situation and have not been able to determine the cause of the problem as of yet. According to reports, sometimes it’s only the drivers side airbag deploying and other times both. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to the problem. Chrysler is cooperating fully with the NHTSA trying to nail down the exact cause of this situation. Chrysler sold 386,873 Jeep Liberty models in 2002 and 2003. If you have any questions or need to report an incident please contact your local Chrysler/Jeep dealer.
