Jesel Land Speed Team Sets New Record At Bonneville

[ 0 ] August 28, 2007 |

After setting the C/MP record last year to over 224 miles per hour, the goal for 2007 was to exceed the 250 miles per hour mark with a full size pickup truck. Bob Cave at Jesel Valvetrain in New Jersey, built the 357 cubic inch Dodge R5P7 Nascar style engine with twin turbochargers, which produced 1,545 horsepower at 8,500 revs per mile at 18 pounds of boost. Since they had to use a production body for the truck, they wanted to get the best aero package as possible. Jesel were invited to use the Chrysler wind tunnel in Auburn Hills, MI. and found that the SRT-10 package was by far the best. At Bonneville Speedweek, Jimmy Barton made a 3 mile shakedown run, so they could get the tune up right and traveled over 220 miles per hour. The next four 5 mile runs were all above 240 miles per hour. Jesel wound up with the C/BMP record at 248.69 miles per hour and had an official top speed of 255.95. Their goal was met and they beat their own “World’s Fastest Pickup Truck” record by over 30 miles per hour.
